Promise

For the promise is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that are far away, to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to come to Himself .
Acts 2:39

Ever feel like you are on the outside or the wrong place or living in the wrong time or too far away from the promises of God? Well, I have experienced my share of those moments .

Many are the days I am so tuned in to what God is doing that I can hardly contain myself. Every breath draws me closer to the fulfillment of God's promises. There are no doubts or delays. I can see and feel how every thing is working together. But, many more are the days that, while I know that God is not slow concerning His promises and that He will fulfill all that He has promised, there are days and weeks when I am left wondering "how long is this going to take? God, is it still possible for the promises to come to pass? Will I see it come to pass?"

In those moments of longing for the promises of God to come to pass NOW, I am drawn back to Acts 2:39. This scripture reminds me 1) that it is not about me, but about the plans of God, 2) that more than things, God promises His presence, and 3) that sometimes the fulfillment of the promises  of "things" are realized by our children (either our natural children, adopted children, or spiritual children). And when you think about that ... How cool is that!!! How cool is it God would keep His promises across generations. No matter what it looks like or how things feel, God is always at work. God is bidding us who are or who feel far away to come closer to Him. And when we desire to answer His call to draw near to Him, to be filled with Holy Spirit, to fulfill His plans ... He works through all the circumstances in our lives to bring us closer than we can imagine possible, to fill us and fulfill us ... not only us, but our children and all those who are far away. When you think about it, the promise of the Holy Spirit means we never have to feel like we are in the wrong place or on the outside again. How cool is that!
